Finding a Youth-Friendly Project:
  1. For projects marked BOOYAH! – Anyone may sign up to participate, regardless of whether they have ever volunteered with Boston Cares before. You can join BOOYAH!, information is at the bottom of this page.

  2. For general calendar projects (These can be found in the link to the right “Upcoming Youth Friendly Projects” or on the calendar.) – In order to volunteer at projects on the Boston Cares calendar, one first needs to attend a New Volunteer Orientation. Many are available each month. Click here for the Orientation Calendar. Youth who wish to volunteer at projects on the Calendar may do so with the following restrictions:
  • Age restrictions noted on project listings are set by the agencies being served and are not flexible.

  • Youth aged 18+ must attend an Orientation and can then volunteer as an adult. All projects on the calendar are 18+ unless otherwise noted as “Kid Friendly”.

  • Those who are 16-17 years old can volunteer without an adult but need to attend an Orientation and bring a signed permission form to each project they attend. Click here to access the permission form.

  • Those under 16 need a parent/guardian with them to volunteer through the calendar. These youth are not required to attend an Orientation, but the parent/guardian who will volunteer with them must. Of course, the youth are invited to attend the Orientation and many parents/guardians find this is a good idea, depending on age!
