BOOYAH! provides groups of youth volunteers the opportunity to create and customize their own volunteer projects that fit their schedules and interest areas. Groups can be of any size and any type including groups of friends, classes of students, after-school programs, families, sports teams, faith-based youth groups, youth leadership councils, and so on.

Past projects have included playing board games with elders, sorting and packaging donated items, building picnic benches for local parks, cleaning up the banks of the Charles River, and more.

Let's Get Started!

STEP 1: Assign a primary contact person to represent your group

STEP 2: Email the completed Group Volunteer Application to Paul Lewis at plewis@bostoncares.org or via fax at 617.422.0911. Email is preferred.

STEP 3: Download a Group Volunteer Policies form so that you and your group are familiar with program guidelines and conditions.

STEP 4: All volunteers under the age of 18 are required to complete and return a permission form signed by their parents or guardians. Volunteers may fax, mail, or bring the form with them to their first project. Volunteers do not need to submit a new form for every project.

STEP 5: Be patient. A coordinator will contact you once he or she has reviewed your application.

Helpful Hints

  • Applications must be submitted at least one month prior to the start of the requested date.
  • Organizations generally accommodate volunteer groups no larger than 15 people.  Outdoor projects and projects outside of the MBTA coverage area generally have more flexibility.
