About BOOYAH!
Boston
Cares' Youth & Family volunteering
program, more popularly know as BOOYAH!
(Boston Young Active Hands), is
the driving force behind Boston Cares'
new youth and family volunteer
initiative. Launched in December 2004,
the program aims to address the
skyrocketing interest in youth and
families to be engaged in community
service.
Steve Culbertson, president and CEO of
Youth Service America, recently
announced that "today's young people are
volunteering at record rates - more than
any generation in history."
At Boston Cares, we believe that
volunteering starts at an early age.
While the majority of our volunteers are
between 13-17 years old, opportunities
are available for families with children
and individual teens who are younger as
long as they meet project requirements.
Projects range from building picnic
benches to packing back-to-school
supplies to removing invasive species
along the Charles River. The impact of
our volunteers' work create rippling
effects and lasting changes that
transform organizations, neighborhoods
and ultimately, individuals.

BOOYAH! creates positive social and
personal change by:
- Empowering youth and families with
opportunities to make a difference - Instilling volunteers with life and
leadership skills that are essential to
them in becoming socially responsible
citizens. - Placing young people in opportunities
where they are viewed as positive role
models. - Creating waves of young activists who
will help shape future generations of
volunteers
