What are Serve &
Learn Projects?
Serve & Learn Projects are
one-time opportunities for individuals who
are interested in volunteer experiences
while also better understanding the issue
areas. These projects incorporate an
education component which enables the
volunteer to learn about issues related to
the service project. They further leave
volunteers with action steps to confront
community issues in the future.

What is the
format for Serve & Learn Projects?
Either before or after the
service project, there will be time set
aside for an educational piece. Elements of
the educational aspect could include:
- Hearing from a staff person from the
organization
- Having a special talk from a guest
speaker
- Engaging in a facilitated group
discussion
- Participating in a service learning
activity
-
Watching a play and having a discussion
afterwards about the show’s themes
