While the holiday season is over, the recession and the challenges of
winter are not - the needs of our neighbors remain urgent. Community
agencies large and small are reporting unprecedented demand for
clothing, food and other life necessities. The number of families in particular who are forced to make choices during the winter
months -- heating their homes or eating -- is still at record levels.
Responding to the Need
To
do our part during the continuing crisis, Boston Cares, The
Boston Globe, and Building Impact have joined
forces to meet urgent community needs during
February 2010.
We need your help to mobilize a
drive through your company, professional or social
organization,
neighborhood or church – to help us collect:
Baby
food & formula (no glass containers
please) for the Greater Boston Food Bank.
These items are continually in demand for young
families. As a secondary goal, we will be
collecting peanut butter and canned tuna, which
are also family dietary staples. How many cans
will YOUR organization collect?
Shoes,
sneakers and boots -
Toddler 12 at Room to Grow.
Children learning
to walk, run and explore their world are always on
the go. Room to Grow will provide over 2,000
pairs of shoes to children this year. How many
shoes will YOUR organization collect?
Here’s what you can do
►Host
a Drive
Organize your drive in February – one day, one week,
or the entire month. Each Drive Host will be asked
to commit to an ambitious but realistic target goal
– for example, collect 50 pairs of shoes or 500 cans,
cartons or containers of the selected food items. Boston Cares will provide Drive Hosts
with coaching, materials, and assistance with
transporting donations to the agencies.
How It Works...
