Construct Toddler Beds at Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service 2014
On Monday, January 20th, 2014 Boston Cares will partner with the Office of the Mayor of Boston, the Massachusetts Service Alliance and the YOU Generate Campaign, and Target to celebrate the life and legacy of MLK Jr.
We will gather at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center and we ask that individuals, families, troops, clubs and other groups come out and help us honor MLK Jr. and make a positive difference in our community!
On MLK Day 2014, 400 volunteers will meet community needs focused on children, education and homelessness. Our education projects will support elementary school student learning by creating math flash cards; Rainbow Fish kits; and “lap desks” that students can use where they live if there is no comfortable space for them to do homework. Homelessness projects will support children transitioning to a home by building toddler beds and creating bedtime kits.
On January 20th, we will build and paint 50 toddler beds as part of our 2014 MLK Day service event. The beds will go to children in need whose parents are working with social workers at several non-profit partners including the Wish Project, Project Hope, and the Mass. Coalition for the Homeless.
Volunteer Requirements:
This project involves light construction and staining. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that you do not mind getting dirty.
Morning shift: 10:00am - 12:00pm
Afternoon shift: 1:30pm - 3:30pm
This project is open to adults 18+.
T-Accessible, Orange line: Roxbury Crossing
