goCreate: Holiday Cards for the Elderly at Ethos

 goCreate December

Boston Cares is excited to kick off a new initiative to engage youth and families in service! Boston Cares will offer a new goCreate project one Sunday a month. It is a chance for kids to get crafty while making an impact. Each month’s project will meet a community need and the completed goods will be donated to local agencies to fulfil that need.

In December, volunteers will be creating Holiday Cards to address elderly isolation and loneliness. These cards will be donated to Ethos to be delivered to clients receiving Meals-on-Wheels.

A message from Meg, their volunteer coordinator: "Ethos is an elder service agency helping seniors in the Southwest region of the city live at home with dignity and independence. These cards will be sent out with our meals on wheels deliveries (we bring hot, nutritious meals to the homes of over 700 isolated elders every day!) in December.  Time and time again we receive feedback from our seniors, especially those who are ill or more isolated, that these cards really brighten their days.”

Youth friendly, 5+. All volunteers under 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old. This project is intended for families and young volunteers. In order to attend, you must be either under the age of 18, or accompanying a child. Please email gtesta@bostoncares.org if you are bringing a child.

Please note that Boston Cares requests a suggested donation of $5.00 per participating volunteer in order to help us provide supplies and management of the goCreate project. Thank you in advance for your donation!

T-Accessible, Red Line (Porter Square).

This project is reserved for Boston Cares members who have attended an orientation.

All volunteers under 18 years old must bring a Permission Form signed by a parent or guardian to give to the Project Leader.

GoCreate projects are a great way to engage a group, club, or sports team! If you are interested in involving your group of youth in service, consider joining our generationOn Club Hub! Affiliated clubs get a monthly template with a project outline, directions, supply list, need and impact statenents, and reflection questions. Boston Cares will help your group or club to find an agency in your community to donate the cards to! For more details, contact Ginelle Testa, Youth Initiatives & generationOn Coordinator at gtesta@bostoncares.org or (617) 422-0910 ex. 208.

If you are an individual over 18 who still wishes to participate or if the project is full, but you want to engage your children, we are happy to send you the template!
