Garden Along the Greenway

The Greenway is the contemporary public park in the heart of Boston. The Greenway welcomes millions of visitors annually to gather, play, unwind, and explore. The Greenway Conservancy is the non-profit responsible for the management and care of The Greenway.

Volunteers have a unique opportunity to help with the organic maintenance of this dynamic green space! Working alongside Greenway Horticulture staff, volunteers can learn more about The Greenway and sustainable gardening. You will be working with a group of other volunteers doing common gardening tasks such as weeding, raking, mulching, planting, and pruning. No previous experience necessary!

Please keep in mind that many gardening tasks involve bending and lifting, though they are often able to make accommodations. Please let them know if you have any concerns or questions in this regard.

Rain dates are scheduled for the following day at the same time. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes and should wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty. Water and light snacks will be provided. Please keep in mind that they do not have a locked area to store bags and you will be responsible for all personal property. Projects take place along The Greenway from Chinatown to the North End. Exact location varies based on the project needs and will be provided prior to the project.

The Greenway scales their projects to the number of volunteers they are expecting, so please make sure to remove yourself from this project if you can no longer attend. If all spots have been taken, please email the volunteer leader (below) to see if you can still join!

Youth friendly, 14+.  Volunteers between 14 and 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old.  All volunteers under 18 years old must bring a permission form signed by a parent or guardian to give to the Volunteer Leader.  Please email volunteers@bostoncares.org if you have questions and/or would like to bring youth to the project.

At Boston Cares, we recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental values that guide our mission and work. Boston Cares is committed to creating a community where everyone is valued, respected, and can come and participate as their authentic selves. We expect that all volunteers and partners join us in promoting a safe and supportive space for everyone.
