Spring Break Tutoring with the Curtis Guild School/YMCA Program

Fewer than 2 in 10 students who enter 9th grade in urban schools ever graduate college. We envision a community where resources are aligned to ensure all school-aged children have a strong foundation with the skills and knowledge to pursue their personal and professional dreams.

A fiscally sponsored program of Third Sector New England (TSNE), Tutors for All (T4A) bridges the achievement gap one student at a time. Through bringing together colleges, schools and community resources, we offer underserved students the systematic individualized instruction they need in order to thrive. Students in the Tutors for All programs have shown dramatically improved MCAS scores and renewed and deeper confidence in their academic abilities. Schools hosting Tutors for All programs have seen assessment results rise from below Boston averages to above state averages.

Volunteers will be filling in for tutors who are away on their college spring break. Volunteers will be tutoring Elementary School students in math. Volunteers are expected to plan and execute lessons (with support from lead tutors) using our Tutors for All curriculum and creativity to engage students.

All volunteers are invited to our Spring Break Kick-Off event to thank them for their service and train them before they start tutoring. The event will take place Friday, March 6th from 5-7PM at the NonProfit Center (89 South St, Boston, MA 02111). If the volunteer begins tutoring before this event or cannot make it to the event, the Program Manager will contact them to go over logistics before they tutor.

Requirements for volunteers include:
-Passion for working with Boston youth
-Adherence to professional standards (conduct, dress, and timeliness)
-Eagerness to reflect and improve performance

T-Accessible: Blue Line (Orient Heights)
