Skywarn Training: Become a Weather Spotter!
The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many Americans. To obtain critical weather information, the National Weather Service (NWS), created the Skywarn volunteer program of trained severe weather spotters. Volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing accurate reports of severe weather at their home. Training covers the fundamentals of storm structure, cloud identification, reporting information, and basic severe weather safety. Skywarn spotters are part of the ranks of citizens who provide the Nation’s first line of defense against severe weather. There can be no finer reward than to know that your efforts have given communities the precious gift of time-seconds and minutes that can help people prepare and take shelter!
