Youth and Education Corps: Apprenticeship Development with Citizen Schools

Join us for the first phase of the Youth and Education Corps, launching in September 2015. The Boston Cares Corps program is an impact driven opportunity for volunteers dedicated to building and strengthening their skills, deepening their community engagement, and making a difference in the lives of Greater Bostonians.

The Youth and Education Corps will combine Boston Cares’ signature flexibility with a focused commitment to ensuring young people succeed, and the resources to make a measurable change.

With the Youth and Education Corps, members will have the opportunity to be a part of a network of likeminded volunteers, skilled professionals, and 2-4 key partners focused on Youth and Education in Boston. Corps members commit to taking on a greater role as a volunteer, through a twice a month Corps-opportunity commitment, training, and leadership in the classroom. See a complete list of expecations and benefits of the Corps program, here.

One of our key partners for the Youth and Education Corps will be Citizen Schools. Through this partnership, volunteers will work within an existing curriculum (Corps members will be able to select from a menu of topics from Design Thinking to Spoken Word) to "Engage middle school students in active learning and bring new role models to students’ lives." Corps members interested in focusing on the apprenticeship program will spend 10 weeks with the students and the curriculum, learning together and working towards the WOW presentation at the end.

We are looking for 6 volunteers who are interested in:
1. Joining the Youth and Education Corps.
2. Being a part of the Apprenticeship program within the Corps.
3. Developing the curriculum you will be working with for the fall in partnership with Boston Cares and Citizen Schools.
Interested Volunteers must be available for at least 8 of the 10 sessions, held between 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays (final schedules TBD).  Volunteers must also adhere to the Corps Expectations, including after the Apprenticeship has finished.

All Youth and Education Corps members will need to complete a CORI Background check.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please Express Interest below. You will then be contacted by Boston Cares staff with additional information and a brief application. Please contact Emily Rackleff, erackleff@bostoncares.org with any questions.
