MLK Summer Scholars Table Facilitators 2015
Engage Youth in Discussion with the 2015 MLK Summer Scholars Program ABOUT THE PROGRAM Boston Cares is pleased to join John Hancock Financial, The Boston Globe, Partners Healthcare, Boston University and Teen Empowerment to produce the 2015 MLK Summer Scholars Program. The program will provide summer jobs in corporate and community settings for more than 600 Boston teenagers, and includes four Mayor Menino Leadership Forums that incorporate teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King that will focus on youth success on the job, at school and in the community. This years theme is civic engagement. Scholars will build meaningful relationships with other youth and volunteer table facilitators while learning life skills through guest speakers and interactive group activities. Volunteer table facilitators will work with the same group of 10 youth at The Mayor Menino Leadership Forums, held at Boston University’s Agganis Arena. Using a curriculum guide tailored to each session, mentors will engage the youth in conversation, interactive exercises and refection on the weekly topic. Table facilitators will be provided with the curriculum in advance. A Friday training is offered before each session. Breakfast will be provided!
FORUM SCHEDULE: Volunteers should select at least 2 of the following sessions to serve as a facilitator (sign up below). 8:30am: Arrive for brief training on week’s forum 9am: Breakfast and students arrive 9:30am: Opening activities with video and speaker 10:30am: Small table discussion 11:30am: Program Ends Friday, July 10: Civic Engagement, Speaker TBD @ BU Agganis Arena Friday, July 24: Friday, August 1: Friday, August 21: Youth Showcase @ BU Agganis Arena (Fewer volunteers needed)
