Kids Who Care: Packing Food at the Greater Boston Food Bank
This project is intended for families and young volunteers. In order to attend, you must be either under the age of 18, or accompanying a youth volunteer.Please email Aysia Rodriguez at arodriguez@bostoncares.org with your child's name and birthdate to sign them up for this project.
Kids Who Care projects involve packing bags of groceries in the Greater Boston Food Bank's (GBFB) warehouse away from the heavy machinery that groups 16 and older would be able to work around. Depending on the needs of the day the group will either be packing bags for their Backpack program - which is a small 5lb bag of food that GBFB gives to children at school on Friday afternoons to provide them with food over the weekend, or packing bags for the Brown Bag program, which is a much bigger bag of food that will be distributed to veterans and seniors to help sustain them throughout the month. Both projects are a fantastic way of getting families with children as young as 10 involved in the fight against hunger!
The group will be given a brief orientation and training prior to volunteering and at the end of their service we will provide a brief closing that explains how many pounds of food were sorted that day and what that translates to in meals.
