Thanksgiving Basket Preparation at East End House

The health and safety of our volunteers, Volunteer Leaders, and the people we serve is our top priority. We are working with our Community Partners to ensure that state & city guidance is followed to slow the spread of COVID-19. Read about our Safety Requirements.

Due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, there has been an increase in individuals and families visiting the food pantry and a higher than normal need for volunteers to support. This volunteer opportunity is open to the community and any individual with a Boston Cares account and who follows our safety requirements may sign up. Having attended a Boston Cares orientation is not required. Please e-mail volunteers@bostoncares.org if you have questions.

Volunteers are needed from to help assemble Thanksgiving baskets, which provide all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal for our local clients. Volunteers are also needed to give out the food to clients.

For over a century, East End House has provided Thanksgiving baskets to their community's under-resourced residents, helping them to have a healthy and festive holiday season through the annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway.  Last year, they provided over 4,500 individuals with ingredients to prepare a healthy Thanksgiving Day meal, a testament to the deep generosity of their community, as well as its profound need. This year they hope to extend their support to even more members of the community and for that, we need your help!

Volunteers should be able to comfortably lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

T-accessible: Red Line to Kendall/MIT, Green Line to Lechmere
