Opportunity Details

Stock Food at the Elizabeth Peabody House Food Pantry

Due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, there has been an increase in individuals and families visiting the food pantry and a higher than normal need for volunteers to support. This volunteer opportunity is open to the community and any individual with a Boston Cares account and who follows our safety requirements may sign up. Having attended a Boston Cares orientation is not required. Please e-mail volunteers@bostoncares.org if you have questions!

The Elizabeth Peabody House provides fresh produce, dairy products and dry goods to individuals and families of the community in need. The pantry functions as a small grocery store where members of the community can come once a month to get the food they need. They currently serve over 1,200 people with 2,400 grocery-filled bags each month!

For Monday Volunteers: During this volunteer opportunity, the EPH Food Pantry coordinator and volunteers travel via van to the Greater Boston Food Bank to pick up their weekly food order.

Please note: Volunteers are encouraged to take their own transportation to GBFB (to practice social distancing) and meet the Pantry Coordinator there. If meeting directly at the food bank, volunteers can arrive at 10am. Volunteers will help load food donations into the EPH van then will go back to EPH to unload donations.

The EPH food pantry coordinator is the acting volunteer leader for this Boston Cares volunteer opportunity.

All volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather as they will be inside and outdoors when transporting items; be sure to wear sneakers or work boots (no open toed shoes or sandals, please). Gloves can be handy, especially in the colder months. Volunteers should be able to comfortably lift at least 25 lbs.

Volunteers are essential for this project and attendance is expected. Please make sure you are able to attend before you sign up!
