Math and Literacy Support for ages 8-12

We are looking for volunteers to provide academic skills support and enrichment to students for after school tutoring.  Volunteers will assist with class activities and homework and model strategies used by successful readers and problem solvers (questioning, accessing prior knowledge, making connections, inferring, predicting, etc.). Local teens serve as tutors throughout the academic year; Boston Cares volunteers will provide additional support allowing for 1:1 engagement with the younger students.
Teens from the Boston Cares community are encouraged to volunteer! Please remember to bring your signed permission form.

Please note: All volunteers will be CORI checked on site. Please bring a valid government issued ID with you to this project. New volunteers to this site should plan to arrive 20 minutes before the start time below.

This volunteer opportunity is reserved for Boston Cares members who have completed an Orientation.

About the Youth Tutoring Youth at the Laboure Center:
Youth Tutoring Youth (YTY) is a free, safe, fun, and challenging afterschool and summer alternative for 3rd through 6th grade youth living in South Boston and surrounding neighborhoods. The program pairs academically talented teens with elementary youth who have been identified by teachers, school administrators, or parents as needing extra support to succeed in school. Youth Tutoring Youth began in 1995 in response to concerns over the academic engagement, behavior, and performance of South Boston youth, as well as the growing need for safe and constructive afterafter-schoolons.
The opportunity date and time you are looking for is no longer available.
