Help with Planting at Bradley School Outdoor Classroom
As part of the Boston Schoolyard Initiative, started in 1995, 78 Boston schoolyards have been transformed from barren asphalt lots into dynamic centers for recreation, learning and community life. A number of these revitalized spaces have been transformed into outdoor classrooms where students participate in Science in the Schoolyard and Outdoor Writers Workshop programs.
In 2010, the Bradley Elementary School in East Boston unveiled a new schoolyard which features an outdoor classroom. The outdoor classroom engages students as they learn about the natural world. Come be a part of this wonderful initiative as we remove dead plant material and plant new shrubs at the outdoor classroom!
Volunteers are needed to remove and weed dead plant material, plant about a dozen small shrubs and generally beautify the space. Volunteers should dress in layers, wear closed-toed shoes and long pants. Also volunteers should bring water and a snack.
This opportunity is reserved for Boston Cares members who have completed an orientation.
