Volunteer with Boston Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition and VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)

Boston Cares is proud to partner with the City of Boston to support the Boston Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition Campaign, which helps put money back in the pockets of Boston's families by providing free tax preparation and financial guidance services. Learn more about the different ways to get involved.

Getting Started

1. Create an account with Boston Cares.

2. Select a Tax Site.
Check out the tax sites overview for specific site information and tax shift sign up links. Before signing up for tax shifts at a new site, please confirm your site placement with Kim Bomba and/or your site coordinator. If you have not chosen a tax site yet, please contact Kim Bomba.

You will need to add your volunteer agreement form to your Boston Cares account before volunteering at a new tax site. For help adding documentation to your account, read this tutorial.

3. Sign up for a Tax Prep shift.
Select a tax site and click "Sign Up" for the dates you wish to serve. Before signing up, you will need to share your tax preparation exam score.

  • There are no more trainings scheduled. If you are a returning VITA volunteer, you can click here to self-certify as a Tax Preparer.

  • NOTE: If no results are found, you may have to clear a previous search (in the lower right-hand corner of the search box) and reload the page.

Please note: These opportunities are not managed by Boston Cares. Please direct any questions or concerns (e.g., directions to the tax site, canceling at the last minute due to illness) to the staff member listed in your confirmation email upon signup.
