Tech Goes Home classes at Codman Square NDC - Basic Technology Corps

Join Boston Cares and Tech Goes Home for a fun, community-based TGH course. The class is a great opportunity for volunteers looking to give back and share their knowledge! Volunteers will work one on one with students to help build basic technology skills.

The mission of the Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation ( the “NDC”) is to build a better, stronger community in Codman Square and South Dorchester by creating housing and commercial spaces that are safe, sustainable, and affordable, promoting financial and economic stability for residents and for the neighborhood, and providing residents of all ages with opportunities and skills to empower themselves to improve their lives.


Mondays at Codman Square NDC - Tech Goes Home Community Classes | Afternoons from 12pm-2pm AND Evenings from 6pm-8pm

TGH Community Adults learn fundamental digital skills from local community site staff. Courses cover topics including but not limited to job searching, financial literacy, communicating with friends and family, and finding educational programs. The program involves 15 hours of training conducted by a TGH trained staff member from the community organization in which the course is run. Upon completion of TGH, participants have the option of purchasing a new computer for $50 and we help them sign up for low-cost Internet access. 


Tuesdays at Codman Square NDC - Tech Goes Home Community Classes | Afternoons from 12pm-2pm AND Small Business Classes | Evenings 6pm-8pm

For Tech Goes Home Small Business courses, local micro entrepreneurs gain digital tools to strengthen their businesses and, in turn, the local economy. The curriculum focuses on leveraging city resources, managing finances, developing an effective web presence, accepting credit card payments, and more. 


About Tech Goes Home: Tech Goes Home (TGH), founded in 2000, is a national award-winning initiative helping to provide under-served residents the opportunity, tools, education, and access required for 21st century skills development. With the support and backing of the city of Boston, TGH prioritizes low-income and underserved populations, including people from challenged neighborhoods, those without technology at home, the unemployed and underemployed, people who do not speak English, and individuals with disabilities. Most TGH households have incomes under $20,000 per year. Of the population TGH serves, 90% are people of color, 40% are English learners. About 45% of TGH School courses support students with special needs. TGH and Boston Cares have partnered since 2015 through the Basic Technology Corps. Corps volunteers are a part of a network of volunteers who share a passion for enhancing others’ tech skills. Volunteers select a partner organization focused on addressing 21st-century skills development that affects Boston’s communities. Corps volunteers deepen their community engagement by committing to serve through the Corps and attending skill building opportunities. Volunteers are expected to attend at least 2 classes per month at 3 sites annually.
