MLK Weekend 2021: Masks for Essential Staff and Clients

Wondering how you can serve your community while staying at home?

Join with other volunteers virtually to create masks for a variety nonprofit agency partners to benefit their staff and the people they serve! These nonprofit partners serve families, children, veterans, and homeless populations and many have essential staff working tirelessly to continue to serve their clients. Volunteers will follow a demonstration with tips and tricks on how to create sewn masks, and this is also an opportunity to learn from one another during the sessions! Agency partners are mostly in need of sewn masks but a few will accept no-sew. We are asking volunteers to follow CDC guidelines (found here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/how-to-make-cloth-face-covering.html)

Please note that you will be asked to supply you own mask making materials. Materials needed for sewn masks are cotton fabric (1 yrd reccomended), 1/8 in flat elastic (9 ft reccomended), ruler, needle, thread, scissors, staight pins and a sewing machine (optional). Materials needed for no-sew masks are cotton fabric (1 yard), elastic hairties, and scissors.

****The health and safety of the community is our first priority. We ask volunteers to be aware of their own health before signing up to help (yes, even virtually.) If you do not feel well or have a temperature, please hold off on volunteering both in person and virtually.

*Volunteers under the age of 18 must submit a completed Parent Guardian Form and email it to volunteers@bostoncares.org by Wednesday, January 13th to participate.
