MLK Weekend 2021: Food Insecurity during COVID-19 - Discussion with GBFB
The Greater Boston Food Bank and Boston Cares will co-host this informative session about the surge in food insecurity in Greater Boston during the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers will learn more about how GBFB has worked with their network of food bank partners to support food distribution and the impact volunteers have had on the organization during the COVID-19 pandemic.
*Volunteers under the age of 18 must submit a completed Parent Guardian Form and email it to volunteers@bostoncares.org by Wednesday, January 13th to participate.
About the Greater Boston Food Bank:
1 in 8 people in Eastern Massachusetts are struggling with hunger.The GBFB has over 650 food sources. One of their connections is with local grocers that donate food that might have been overproduced, incorrectly labeled or packaged, or is not selling well. They also accept donations from restaurants, universities, food drives, and individuals.
Boston Cares and the Greater Boston Food Bank will host this session surrounding what food distribution and volunteering look like now since COVID-19 - including safety precautions, the importance and need for volunteers right now, how you can get involved and more! The Greater Boston Food Bank helps bring food to so many other nonprofit agency food banks and pantries in the city. Come find out how, and to learn more about food insecurity in the City of Boston.
