Reach Out & Read at the Mattapan Community Health Center
Spring 2013 TeamWorks
ShowREADS - Reach Out and Read
at Mattapan Health Community Center
___________________________________________
Reach Out & Read is a nationwide program that allows for children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years to receive books when they visit their pediatricians. The purpose of the program is to have staff in a professional medical setting discuss the importance of literacy and books to families to promote early childhood literacy.
Volunteers are needed to read to children while they are waiting to be seen for their appointments. The Health Center provides the books, and volunteers bring the imagination! Children are usually between 2-8 years old.
There may be a time lag between reading opportunities, and the amount of reading done depends on the volume of children that are visiting the health center that day.
To check out reading tips and techniques please click here to be redirected to the Reach Out & Read national website.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own books to read with the children if they have them!
T-Accessible, Orange Line (Forest Hills and bus connection).
This project is reserved for Boston Cares members who have attended an orientation.

Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+, Orientation Required
