ServiceWorks Volunteer Training

Boston Cares ServiceWorks, powered by Boston Cares in partnership with AmeriCorps, the Citi Foundation and Points of Light, is a program that engages 16-24 year olds in leadership and project development as strategies to help address barriers to youth economic opportunity within Boston.

Through ServiceWorks, program participants -- also known as Service Scholars -- gain critical leadership and workplace skills, strengthened networks and community connections AND the opportunity to apply those skills by volunteering and leading their own community service projects.

Volunteer with ServiceWorks!
As a ServiceWorks volunteer, you can help empower Service Scholars to articulate a vision for their futures, take steps to accomplish their goals and leverage their networks to overcome any obstacles they may be facing in reaching their goals.

The ServiceWorks curriculum may be delivered through several different models depending on the needs of our partners, but our five core skill-building workshops equip Service Scholars to explore, understand and take action on community issues. Throughout this process, Service Scholars examine how volunteering promotes skill building and helps prepare them to meet their college and career goals. Service Scholars are also invited to attend additional skill building workshops on topics ranging from resume writing and interviewing to navigating financial aid and college application processes.

Time Commitment: ServiceWorks volunteers typically dedicate 1-3 hours per week to the program. This includes preparation of the module and facilitation of the module.

18+ only. All ServiceWorks volunteers must complete a ServiceWorks Volunteer Training before placement. All volunteers are also required to complete a CORI background check through Boston Cares.
