VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS

Each year, Boston Cares recognizes oustanding volunteers who have made achievements through service over a 12-month period at the annual Boston Cares Awards. This event is an opportunity to recognize the outstanding work of our volunteers and partners from the previous year.

Join us in February 2021 to celebrate 30 years of Boston Cares!

In lieu of a fall 2020 celebration, we will be moving our event to February 2021 to align with our 30th anniversary.

Stay tuned for a Save The Date and more details!

PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD & BOSTON CARES SERVICE CHAMPIONS AWARD:

Boston Cares is proud to recognize outstanding volunteer service through the Presiden's Volunteer Service Award and Boston Cares Service Champions Award. The shifting of our Awards event will impact how we calculate eligibility for these awards. In previous years, the Boston Cares has considered the 12-month period for either award to be September 1 – August 31. To bring our service year in alignment with the calendar year, and our February 2021 awards event, we will be shifting our service year to January 1 – December 31. For this transition year, Boston Cares will consider hours served for September 1, 2019 – August 31, 2020 OR January 1, 2020-December 31, 2020. Boston Cares will review service records for both time periods and volunteers will be awarded with the award that corresponds to the higher number of hours between those two service years.

We appreciate your understanding as we make this adjustment. For any questions or clarification, please contact us at volunteers@bostoncares.org.

How will the new service year impact which level of award I recieve?

Example: If an adult volunteer served 110 hours between 9/1/2019-8/31/2020 and volunteered 260 hours between 1/1/2020-12/31/2020, they would be awarded the Silver level award at the February 2021 event.

Note: If a volunteer ages into a new age group during the course of the service year, Boston Cares will consider them a part of the category they were for the majority of the year.

Example: If a volunteer was born on 4/1/2004, they would be a “Teen” for the Sept 2019-Aug 2021 service year (age 15 for the majority) and a “Young Adult” for the Jan-Dec 2020 service year (16 for the majority).
