Boston Cares Hosts a Summer Blood Drive!

It's a time to share life.

Summer. It's time for the days that never end. Time for diving in and grilling out. Time to watch fireworks, have a picnic, and root for the home team. It's a time to share life. With your grandkids and the first fish they ever caught. With your mother and the vacation she's deserved for years. With friends and mile after mile of open road. These are the stories we live for, and in summer, they're in season.

What if you could give someone a summer of stories? With the American Red Cross, you can. Your blood donation can help save the life of a patient in need. A veteran and baseball player, Greg Reynolds lost his arm in a horrific motorcycle accident. With the support of his mother and his own resolve, Greg is back playing the game he truly loves.

Watch as Greg, a recipient of 101 pints of blood, shares how blood donors helped save his life.

Your donation is needed now to help avert a summer blood shortage.
During the summer, vacations and others summer activities conflict with donation appointments for many regular donors, but the need remains constant.

Donations were down about 10 percent in June, resulting in about 50,000 fewer donations than expected.

Every day, the Red Cross must collect almost 17,000 pints of blood for patients at nearly 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion.

Every day people like Greg receive blood from Red Cross donors for a variety of medical conditions. Will you please make an appointment to give?  The donation process takes one hour.

To schedule an appointment please
visit
redcrossblood.org
or call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767).
*Appointment slots run hourly from 9:00am-2:00pm.

Nervous or Squeamish?
Is it your first time donating? Read this
donation guide! Have a friend or family member schedule an appointment to donate with you!

How the donation process works, step 1,2,3!

1. Volunteers who are making donations will sign in at the desk.

2. Go through a short health review.  The review determines if you are able to donate blood that day.

3. Donate one pint of blood.
Fact: 1 pint of blood can save 3 lives!

After the donation, volunteers will be given snacks and time to rest in the donor center. You will receive a thank you gift for your service!

This project is open to the public.

If you are 16 years of age and want to donate, please download this

permission form.

"This was my first time donating blood and Andrea (my Red Cross nurse) was wonderful! I'll definitely be donating again asap!
