Vocational English Classes for Refugees at JVS
The mission of JVS is to empower individuals from diverse communities to find employment and build careers and to partner with employers to hire and train productive workforces.
JVS is seeking volunteers to serve in the ESL classroom to help refugees with vocational English. The refugees and political asylees come from all over the world and need to learn English to get a job as soon as possible.
Volunteers will have access to an array of teaching tools, including computers, for them to utilize on a one-on-one, small or large group basis. Volunteer tasks may include teaching how to schedule an interview via the telephone, how to interview for a job, practicing customer service at the cash register or in a restaurant, or helping students search and apply for jobs online. *In order to model the best possible workplace etiquette for the clients of JVS, volunteers are asked to wear business casual attire*
***Please note: JVS would like to encourage volunteers to register and attend both sessions (9am-11:00am and 11:00am-1:00pm) if available. Any time you can give is more than appreciated!
