Global Youth Service Day 2015: Create Your Own Garden Kit

Global Youth Service Day is an annual celebration of youth in service. GYSD is the largest service event in the world, engaging youth in over 100 countries and 6 continents.   Boston Cares will be hosting a project to build 100 Healthy Garden Start-Up Kits here in Boston, and we invite you to join us by hosting your own project!

Get your group involved by expressing interest below! We’ll follow up with you about next steps and your group will receive a PDF Guide on what you'll need and how to build the kit, plus some background on healthy eating to use as an educational component with your project.   Special Boston Cares’ Global Youth Service Day Buttons, seeds for the kit, and envelopes are available in limited quantities on first-come, first-served basis.

By participating in this project, you will be joining millions of youth everywhere for the world’s largest annual day of youth service!

The Garden Kits were designed to address healthy eating and food equality. The project was created by the Boston Cares Teen Advisory Council. Our goal is to promote healthy habits by giving children an outlet to plant and grow their own foods including cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, basil, and oregano. The idea is that when kids grow their own healthy foods, kids eat healthy foods! Toolkits will include Garden Guides developed by the Boston Cares Teen Advisory Council which will provide instructions for gardening as well as a healthy recipe booklet.

After completing your projects, groups will share out their stories of service to help us paint the picture of youth service here in Massachusetts and highlight the impact youth are making on their communities. Tell us about your completed service projects here!
