Opportunity Details

Join the Basic Technology Corps!

Make an impact with the Basic Technology Corps! We are looking for fresh faces to join existing Corps Members in advancing technology education, access, and skills for youth and adults.

The Boston Cares Corps program is an impact driven opportunity for volunteers dedicated to building and strengthening their skills, deepening their community engagement, and making a difference in the lives of Greater Bostonians.

Advanced technology skills are not required to volunteer with the Corps, just a desire to learn and expand opportunities for your community!

The Basic Technology Corps combines Boston Cares’ signature flexibility with a focused commitment to an impact area and the resources to make a measurable change. Corps members are a part of a network of volunteers who share a passion for enhancing others’ tech skills. Volunteers serve at 2-4 partner organizations focused on addressing 21st century skills development that affects Boston’s communities. Corps members deepen their community engagement by committing to serve twice-a-month through the Corps and attending skill building opportunities. See a complete list of expectations and benefits of the Corps program, here.

Our first key partner for the Basic Technology Corps will be Tech Goes Home, a nonprofit that teaches underserved citizens how to use the internet and improve their careers through technology. Through this partnership, volunteers will work within an existing curriculum to create and facilitate activities involving Google Drive and Microsoft Office, in addition to potential opportunities to mentor students and share your skillset.

Our second key partner is the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester, who will be hosting CS First. This partnership between Google and the Boys and Girls Club of America provides a step-by-step curriculum to empower students to create with technology through easy to use enrichment materials. Volunteers will provide classroom support in guiding students through this curriculum.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in:

1. Joining the Basic Technology Corps and meeting the Corps expectations, including serving 2 times/month at one of our Corps partner sites.

2. Working in classrooms and community centers one-on-one with student and adult learners to build Basic Technology Skills.

3. Creating activities for existing class topics and assisting with connecting the skills learned into a real world, career focused context

All Basic Technology Corps Members will need to complete and pass a CORI Background check and plan to attend our kick-off training on Saturday, January 30th (Time and location TBD) to join the Basic Technology Corps.  The kickoff will provide volunteers with the opportunity to meet new and current Corps members, learn tips & tricks from knowledgeable and local professionals, as well as receive an orientation from local partner agencies so you’re ready to go at your first projects!

If you are interested in this opportunity, please Express Interest below. You will then be contacted by Boston Cares staff with additional information and a brief application.  Please contact Orláith Duggan, oduggan@bostoncares.org with any questions.
