Franklin Park Coalition

MISSION Franklin Park Coalition is a nonprofit agency which works with the diverse communities surrounding Franklin Park. Advocacy, restoration and stewardship; working to protect the best interests of the park as well as promoting and encouraging a better quality of life for the community. IMPACT ~Franklin Park Coalition has saved the park rangers from elimination in the city budget. ~Removed a park eyesore – an unused cement bathroom, covered with graffiti, that could not be reclaimed and was frequented by drug dealers. ~Began a Woodlands Restoration Campaign to restore and preserve Franklin Park's forest - the largest in Boston. Dying and dead trees need to be removed, invasive plants cleared, and new saplings planted in order to ensure the Park will be here in 50 years. ~Created the Summer Youth Conservation Crew, providing jobs for teenagers from local neighborhoods. Crew members learn landscaping and other job skills, while becoming park leaders and role models to younger children. ~Reviving Elma Lewis' Playhouse in the Park to support a vibrant art community.
