Make Deliveries to Families for Boston Public Schools!

The health and safety of our volunteers, Volunteer Leaders, and the people we serve is our top priority. We are working with our Community Partners to ensure that state & city guidance is followed to slow the spread of COVID-19. Read about our Safety Requirements.

Deliver groceries to families for Boston Public Schools! Volunteers will pick up pre-packaged grocery bags at the Red Cross Food Pantry to deliver to 5-7 families. Most deliveries will be in Dorchester and Roxbury, but some routes are in East Boston, JP, Hyde Park and other neighborhoods. Direct contact with families is not necessary. Additional details will be sent to drivers the Thursday before delivery.

Please note: EACH volunteer to sign up will need a Driver's License and access to their own vehicle.

Location: Volunteers will begin the project at the American Red Cross Food Pantry new Andrew Station (Red Line).

These deliveries serve families experiencing food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the families are low income who have a lot of needs during this time. The food being delivered consists of healthy and nutricious groceries. All help is appreciated to be able to deliver to the over 670 families in need through this program!

These deliveries will benefit the families of the following schools: The Martin Luther King Jr. K-8, Jeremiah Burke High School, Trotter Elementary, Haynes Early Education Center, Frederick School, Sarah Greenwood School, Paul A Dever School and John McCormack Middle School.

Please Note: the Red Cross Food Pantry is currently operating under a two-team model. This will help them continue operations in the event of a COVID-19 exposure after a mandatory closure for cleaning and more. Their goal operationally is to limit the number of folks that may need to self-quarantine after that mandatory closure. There will be an A team and a B team.
The A team volunteers will be working every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday events. The B team volunteers will be working every Tuesday event. Those who work on one team’s work day will not be allowed to work on the other team’s work day. For example, if you register for a Tuesday event, you will only be able to work on Tuesday events at the Red Cross going forward until further notice. If a volunteer works on a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday, they will not be allowed to work on a Tuesday.
