Virtual Tutoring with College Bound Dorchester!

College Bound Dorchester is a Boston nonprofit poised to be a national model for using education to end systemic generational urban poverty and violence through its Uncornered solution. Their vision is to transform neighborhoods through education by ending generational cycles of urban poverty, violence and lack of opportunity.

Volunteer tutors help their students as they work towards their Hi-SET (high school equivalency test), which is a series of 5 tests in the following subject areas: Language Arts-Reading.Language Arts – Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

Students use an online program called Essential Education to complete their work, and tutors are given access to see what they are working on and help the student through.

The students are formerly gang-involved youth and young adults (18+) who have chosen to turn their lives around and focus on an educational pathway into college with the support of College Bound Dorchester's staff mentors (College Readiness Advisors), who are themselves former gang members with shared life experiences.
