Codman Square Library Garden Kick Off

Four Corners Main Streets supports and promote a vibrant, healthy, and active commercial district in the Four Corners neighborhood through the following four-pronged approach: improving the district’s economic vitality by supporting existing businesses and attracting new ones; marketing the district to attract new and repeat visitors that support local businesses; enhancing the physical appearance of the district with an emphasis on safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and; increasing community connections to the district through events and involved businesses and residents. Four Corners Main Streets is about People, Place, and Opportunity. Our mission is guided by our principles of equity and inclusion, and carried out by staff, and volunteers.

As a partner and supporter of the Friends of Codman Square Branch Library, we're inviting volunteers to join us in kicking off the 2025 Garden Season at the Bee All You Can Bee multigenerational garden. The garden has grown and we need to prepare the raised beds for new gardeners. Volunteers will be helping with a general clean-up of the garden, picking up trash and debris, organizing tools and materials and arranging garden furniture and supplies. Volunteers will help to spread compost to the flower beds and the vegetable raised beds. You will help to replace soil in some the beds used by the afterschool program children as well as those used by the older adults program. You will also help us plant pollinator friendly flowers along the periphery of the garden, and transfer plants to all beds as natural pest deterrents. Volunteers will also help bring out our indoor garden plants to re-charge during the summer months by placing them in the outdoor garden. There will be plenty to do for volunteers of all types!

The tasks for this volunteer opportunity are varies so that you can determine what best meets your physical abilities. Heavy tasks can be reduced in size/weight to allow more to partake. You will be able to work both in a sunny spot or shaded area of the garden. Water and restroom facilities will be accessible in the garden.

MBTA Accessibility: Bus # 23 and #22 from Ruggles Station (Orange Line) or Ashmont Station (Red Line) stops near the corner of Washington St and Talbot Ave, a short walk from the meeting site. Street and on-site parking is available. Garden is located behind the library building.

At Boston Cares, we recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental values that guide our mission and work. Boston Cares is committed to creating a community where everyone is valued, respected, and can come and participate as their authentic selves. We expect that all volunteers and partners join us in promoting a safe and supportive space for everyone.
