Pollinator Garden Tending: Cleanup/Weeding @ Christian Herter Community Garden
Pollinator Networks is a Boston-based organization that restores and constructs new native habitats for bees, butterflies, birds, and other pollinators. We combine a unique approach of community outreach, art, and education to create the foundation for sustainable change in local ecosystems.
Habitat destruction is one of the biggest threats to pollinator populations across the world. This group of creatures is vital to the process of plant reproduction, and creates a healthy ecosystem that other wildlife (including humans!) depend on. Bringing pollinators to local neighborhoods benefits plants and flowers all over the community. More pollinators mean more fruit, flowers and vegetables.
Join us at one of our most beautiful gardens, the pollinator garden at the Christian Herter Park Community Garden. The garden is right at the Charles River in the shade of a giant oak tree. We will be removing invasive plants and doing a little mowing.
Experience working in gardening is helpful and appreciated, but not necessary. Volunteers should be able to work in the heat, bend over, and stand for a couple of hours.
Please note: We will have tools, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
- Bring mosquito repellent, NOT DEET-BASED! We like Badger Anti Bug Balm.
- We will be removing lily of the valley. This plant very rarely irritates people's skin. We will have gloves, but you are welcome to bring your own.
- Bring a hat, water and sunscreen!
MBTA Accessibility: Bus 66 & 86, Boston Landing Station of the Commuter Rail
