PeaceBQ: Community Barbeque

Louis D. Brown Peace Institute's mission is to serve as a center of healing, teaching, and learning for families and communities impacted by murder, trauma, grief, and loss.

Volunteer to help staff the community BBQ happening at Town Field Park and foster community for our survivors and providers that live and work in South Boston. This community disproportionately is impacted by violence and also happens to be primarily BIPOC communities. The PeaceBQ is a community BBQ that tangibly shows that these communities can still be peaceful, that we don't have to go elsewhere to enjoy ourselves and feel safe, but that we can do so in our own communities.

Volunteer duties may include the following:

1. Helping volunteer table set up
2. Working concession stands (popcorn machine/cotton candy machine/slushie machine)
3. Helping to serve food banquet style with serving utensils
4. Park clean up and break down
5. Helping move tables and chairs for attendees to sit at

Volunteers will need to stand for up to 3 hours at a time, be able to lift heavy boxes up to 30lbs, and be able to be outside for extended period of time (tents will be provided).
