Organization Profile

MISSION: To help homeless families gain the education and skills needed to permanently pull themselves out of poverty and into stable affordable housing. DESCRIPTION: Casa Nueva Vida is the only homeless shelter in Massachusetts with a completely bilingual staff, making it uniquely capable of providing a focused specialized package of services and programs to single Latina mothers and their children. Casa Nueva Vida (“House of New Life”) was founded in 1987 in response to the special needs of the growing number of Hispanic homeless families and now houses 16 families within its facilities. Casa Nueva Vida’s mission is not solely based on providing safe, permanent and affordable housing for its homeless mothers and their at-risk children, but it also seeks to empower the residents to become independent of all forms of public assistance. All of its programs were created on the basis of the needs expressed by surrounding community members and shelter residents with the goal of accomplishing self-sufficiency. IMPACT: Casa Nueva Vida operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Residents gain the skills necessary to find a moderate job in the community once they find permanent housing.
