MISSION: To provide students with a safe, caring, stimulating, and creative educational environment with literacy as the foundation. To commit to celebrating diversity through a curriculum that explores and values issues relevant to all students. To be dedicated to working together to create a community of lifelong learners. DESCRIPTION: The Winship Community includes a dedicated staff, supportive families, and motivated students. Together these entities strive to promote the core values of Respect, Cooperation, Peace, Responsibility and School Pride. Winship offers a K-5 Regular Education Program and an Early Childhood Program (K0-K1). The curriculum supports strong literacy and math skills coupled with inquiry-based science. Winship enjoys partnerships with Boston College and Boston University who assign their practicum students to Winship to learn the craft of teaching. The Winship School is designated as an Environmental Science School. There is a full-time science specialist on staff who teaches all grades in a dedicated science room. Students conduct experiments, produce technology science products, observe animals and plants, as well as use computers. IMPACT: The Winship is home to 270 students from all across the city. Fully 50% of the students are Latino. There are many second language learners, and children of economic disadvantage.
