Neighborhood House Charter School

The mission of the Neighborhood House Charter School is to offer a quality education to a diverse community of Boston children through a neighborhood-based school that integrates education with social services and health care programs for the benefit of students and their families that otherwise have limited public educational opportunities. The school is a publicly funded but independently managed elementary and middle school. Their After School program integrates learning with fun in a safe and cost effective manner. NHCS serves 330 students. The demographic breakdown includes 55% African American, 23% Caucasian, 7% Cape Verdean, 8% Hispanic, 4% Asian and 3% American Indian/Alaskan. 67% of NHCS children live in poverty as defined by federal guidelines. Most NHCS students live in Dorchester (64%) with the remainder living in Roxbury (5%), Mattapan (11%) and other Boston neighborhoods (6%). 38 students at NHCS have been identified as needing Special Education services and 43 as needing other Special Services.
