DESCRIPTION The New England Wildlife Center is a twenty-one year old humane, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving wildlife and the environment through the operation of a wildlife teaching hospital, education, advocacy and public health and habitat intervention. All of their education programs are designed to promote positive behaviors and policies toward wildlife and the environment. By working to preserve wildlife and habitats and by promoting core, humane values, their efforts not only aid wildlife and habitats, but they also help mankind. Their wildlife teaching hospital annually helps 3,000 suffering wild animals and trains undergraduate students. Their science and nature programs reach hundreds of children through school programs and camps. IMPACT Since their inception, the Center's hospital has treated approximately 48,000 ailing wild animals representing 225 species, everything from hummingbirds to snapping turtles, turkeys, warblers, swans, fox, deer, rabbits, squirrels and many others. The Center's education programs have taught science and nature programs to more than 100,000 elementary and secondary school students and provided in-depth hands-on training to more than 300 undergraduate students. They produced 150 half-hour cable access television shows about wildlife.More than 190,000 volunteer hours have been invested into caring for their animals, research, assisting with education programs, and maintaining their hospital. Finally, they provided information about wildlife, habitats and the environment to more than 120,000 people who have called their hospital for help.
