Assemble Grocery Bags for Distribution at the American Red Cross Food Pantry

The health and safety of our volunteers, Volunteer Leaders, and the people we serve is our top priority. We are working with our Community Partners to ensure that state & city guidance is followed to slow the spread of COVID-19. Read about our Safety Requirements.

Volunteers will prepare bags of groceries with fresh and frozen foods (may include meat and fish) as well as dry goods and cans to be distributed the next morning to clients. All volunteers are REQUIRED to wear sturdy shoes or sneakers. For safety reasons, no open-toed shoes or sandals will be allowed in the warehouse. During the cooler months, please bring warm clothing and a pair of gloves, as it can get cold in the warehouse while handling frozen food packages.

Please do not bring any valuables (i.e. smartphones, jewelry, etc.) to this project. If this is not possible, please keep all valuable items with you at all times. The Red Cross Food Pantry is not responsible for any lost items.

***PLEASE NOTE: The American Red Cross Boston Food Pantry requires all employees and in-person volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 effective January 4, 2022.

In order to volunteer in the pantry, volunteers must receive the 1st vaccine dose on or before January 3, so that they can ensure they are fully vaccinated by February 15. (Fully Vaccinated means at least 14 days have passed after receiving final vaccine dose)

In-person volunteers who do not have full vaccination status by February 16, 2022 cannot volunteer in their facility.  They can only return after they are fully vaccinated.

To enter our pantry, volunteers will need to show that they are vaccinated against COVID-19. That verification can be done with:
  • a CDC vaccination card
  • a digital image of your CDC card
  • an image of any official immunization record, or
  • any other COVID vaccine verification app.***
