Operation Thank a Veteran
This event is a chance to thank veterans for their service. Volunteers visit a different Boston neighborhood each month and knock on veteran's doors to thank them for their service. Volunteers also give veterans information on resources available to them. It can be very powerful- people have encountered veterans who were never thanked for their service and are very grateful to be thanked, and volunteers often encounter veterans very eager to talk about their service. Veterans vary widely in ages- volunteers will encounter veterans from many different eras, from WWII to the present day. Volunteers will be split into teams, typically of 3 to 4 individuals. If volunteers have a car and are comfortable, they can drive 2-3 other volunteers from door to door. This project involves knocking on doors, so it requires some amount of walking and talking to people. Each date will take place in a different neighborhood: September 28th: Mattapan October 19th: Brighton November 16th: South Boston Youth Friendly, 12+. Youth under 18 must participate with an accompanying adult. All volunteers under 18 years old must bring a Permission Form signed by a parent or guardian to give to the Project Leader. Please email volunteers@bostoncares.org or call 617-422-0910 to sign up your child for this project.
