Serve Dinner at the Boston Living Center

Victory Programs has helped individuals and families in crisis for 50 years. Some 5,250 people turn to us yearly for shelter, sustenance, recovery, care, and professional, compassionate support. The individuals and families we serve across our 30 programs are unhoused or precariously housed, most of whom struggle with substance use, have mental health concerns, and/or live with chronic health issues like HIV/AIDS. When other organizations will not or cannot take them in, we do.

Victory Programs’ Victory Programs' Boston Living Center (BLC) responds to the changing needs of its community through education, treatment information, and support services. All meals are designed by a nutritionist, and over 80% of BLC members report the BLC is their first or second source of food. Volunteers help provide a nutritious meal to our members and are an important part of building community at the BLC. In an average year, their volunteers help serve over 30,000 meals at the BLC.

Help prepare and serve a delicious meal for members and friends! Please be prepared to help with tasks including preparing meals, serving meals, washing dishes, and cleaning tables. No kitchen experience required! Dinner is served every Monday, and volunteers are asked to be there for the full shift to help with set up and cleanup in addition to serving the meal.  A healthy warm meal is provided to volunteers as part of their service. This project is fast paced and requires volunteers to stand for the majority of the opportunity. If this is a concern, please contact the Volunteer Leader. Volunteers are required to wear hats (if you do not bring a hat you will be supplied with one) and should not wear open-toed shoes or tank tops.

What Boston Cares members have to say about Victory Programs' Boston Living Center:

"Serving lunch at the Boston Living center is always a rewarding, meaningful and fun experience.  This volunteer opportunity has just the right blend of direct service and behind-the-scenes support activities.  Volunteers are fully engaged in a variety of interesting and fast-paced tasks, many of which afford opportunities to learn about cooking, food service, etc.  BLC staff and members are always helpful, gracious, and...most of all...deeply grateful."
-Paula Jones
