Jamaica Plain - Help at the Front Desk at Ellis Early Learning

Ellis Early Learning is a nonprofit organization that has served Boston’s working families and children since 1885. Today, we provide high-quality early education and care to over 300 children annually, ages four months to five years. As one of only 6% of early childhood programs accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Ellis stands out as one of the most socio-economically, racially, and culturally diverse organizations serving Boston’s children.

Across two schools in the South End and one in Jamaica Plain, 65% of our families attend Ellis through government child care subsidies, 20% have open cases with the Department of Children and Families, and 11% are currently experiencing homelessness. At Ellis, every child thrives, and every educator flourishes in an inclusive and equitable learning environment.

Ellis volunteers will manage the front desk, assisting parents, teachers, and staff entering the building. Volunteers may bring their own computers if they need to work during their shift. Please come dressed in comfortable, appropriate clothing for working with children, and wear closed-toe shoes. All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

Volunteers who wish to work more than two shifts must undergo a background and fingerprint check in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). Optional Zoom calls with a team member can be scheduled if you would like to review our volunteer policy and background check consent form.

Photos and videos of children or the building are NOT permitted.
