Young Adult HiSET Program Tutors
Madison Park Development Corp.'s mission today remains true to their history—to foster a vibrant, healthy Roxbury neighborhood that supports the well-being and advancement of the community.
Volunteers will engage with young adults in both small group settings and one-on-one sessions, focusing on preparing students for all five HiSET subject areas, with a special emphasis on Math and Science. This role is ideal for individuals who are patient, passionate about education, and eager to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
We are seeking compassionate volunteers with the ability to connect with a vulnerable group of young adults, ages 17-25. The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in employing hands-on teaching methods to deliver impactful lessons. This role is perfect for individuals who are patient, empathetic, and motivated to make a real difference in the lives of others through educational support.
While there are no significant physical requirements for this role, a substantial capacity for empathy and understanding is essential. The young adults at the Opportunity Employment Program often face unique challenges, including involvement with the judicial system, extended gaps in their education, mental health issues, and learning disabilities. We are looking for volunteers who bring a big heart and a commitment to supportive, patient engagement to help these students succeed.
Please note: Volunteers should have a good, general knowledge of the subjects HiSET covers (reading, writing, math, social studies, and science) in order to adequately support students.
MPDC may provide training or orientation sessions to familiarize volunteers with the program's objectives, teaching methods, and the specific needs of the students. Attend these sessions to be well-prepared for your role.
