MISSION To develop, implement and support a comprehensive continuum of care for homeless men and women including: prevention, outreach and assessment, emergency shelter, employment and training, transitional housing, permanent housing and related support services by facilitating collaborations, increasing public awareness, providing direct services, educating public policy makers, raising funds and promoting community involvement. DESCRIPTION The Friends of Shattuck Shelter, LTD (The Friends) is one of Boston's largest and most innovative providers of services to homeless men and women and those at risk of homelessness. Founded as a non-profit corporation in 1984, The Friends originally provided financial resources, community volunteers and advocacy for the programs and services of The Shattuck Shelter - Center for the Homeless. Since that time, The Friends role has evolved from Advisory Board to that of Human Service Provider. The Friends have developed a creative and effective continuum of programs for homeless people and those at risk of homelessness. IMPACT They provide shelter to 200 homeless men and women on any given night. Street Outreach Team deliver case management services to homeless men and women living on the streets of Greater Boston from 6AM until 9PM, six days a week. Friends of Shattack Shelter operate seventeen emergency and rehabilitative programs providing services to shelters state wide. Green Door and Lifelines, InReach and Impact Employment Services have become a recognized resource for other service provides in Greater Boston and throughout the state.
