Bread and Jams

MISSION Bread & Jams, Inc. is a not-for-profit, member-led organization of mostly homeless and formerly homeless persons that: (1) provides dignified assistance and opportunities for self-help and peer support to persons who are or have been homeless, or are on the verge of being homeless; (2) works to empower persons who are or have been homeless, or are on the verge of being homeless, to exercise greater control over their lives and their circumstances; and (3) invites consumers, volunteers, and employees to work together as equals in the process of governing the organization. DESCRIPTION Bread & Jams, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c) 3 charitable organization which assists people with the transitions in their lives when they find themselves at risk or homeless. They offer the following programs and services: The Self Advocacy Center: Provides a safe place where homeless adults and youth can self advocate for a more successful lifestyle. Clients have access to showers, nourishment, a voice-mail box, rest, and the opportunity to create a safe shelter with their fellow participants. The Center also offers two on site services: health care and eye care. Furthermore, case management is provided to the clients. Sunday Meal Program & Clothing: Each Sunday since 1990, Bread & Jams Inc., has served a vegetarian community meal to more than 80 people. IMPACT Bread & Jams serves 3,000 people a year.
